Noah's Ark Craft

This is such an easy and cute craft for toddlers and younger children.

Print off a picture of an ark.  I made this one when 90 seconds of looking online didn't come up with one I liked.  (Does someone need to sing the Patience Song?  Ha ha!!)  Colour and then cut out.  Parents can help cut if the kids aren't quite at the scissors stage.

Glue onto a dark or stormy colour background.  I had a wonderful blue-grey that was perfect!

Rip tissue paper into long, jagged strips for the waves.  Crunch slightly in your hands and then gently smooth out again for some extra texture.  Using different colours really helps to show depth, so I grabbed bright blue, grey, and black.  Glue starting with the top layer and overlapping as you go.

Place glue dots (use white school glue or hot glue gun, not a gluestick!) in the sky area and attach sequins for the raindrops.  Chalk dots would also look great!

Viola!  Noah's ark in the stormy waves! :)

Handmade {Valentine} Cards I

Well, I made these in time for Valentine's Day but didn't get them posted.  Oh well, I am just super duper early for V Day 2012!

I cut cardstock paper into 4 pieces and used a hot glue gun to attach everything.  This is where the box of vintage buttons and zippers that I got from my grandma came in handy.  I bought nothing - everything was already in my house.  We wrote on the backs and taped a chocolate heart on the back of each one.  I did spend $1 or so on chocolate hearts.  

My kids had a great time handing these out!

DIY Easy Large-Scale Artwork

Our son wanted a Lightning McQueen room a couple of years ago when the movie was still fairly new.  Our budget for the bedroom was fairly limited, and I was fairly choosy about what would go in the room.  He received some of those Crayola giant colouring pages as a birthday or Christmas gift, and while we were colouring them, I had a great idea! 

Background: I had previously purchased posters and had them mounted.  I had loved the look then and knew that at some point I would revisit this idea.

The BIG Idea:

Colour the pages in their entirety (son & me), mount the colouring pages ourselves (aka hubby), and create a deep wooden frame (also aka hubby).  Then paint the frames in a matching or coordinating colour to the bedroom!  We mounted the paper using spray glue on thin plywood, and then modge podged the top of the paper.

We had done a double stripe along the base of his room.  Main room colour was yellow, and the stripes were red and blue - we closely colour-matched these actual Lightning McQueen colours.  So we did the frames in the blue and love how it all turned out!!

Big impact for practically nothing!
