House Reno, Part 1

I love reading DIY and renovation blogs, so I thought I would post one of my own.

My hubby and I undertook a total house reno a couple of years ago (a complete flip), although we had no HGTV or TLC camera crew following us around. We bought our first house while we were pregnant with our first, and moved in three days before he arrived. In the summer. Without air conditioning. Yikes! Let's just say it was a hooootttt summer!

My two favourite parts of the house reno would have to be the upstairs bathroom and the kitchen. Just for a little background: the house was built in the 60's and was the builder's model home for the neighbourhood. It was purchased by someone who lived in it for about twenty years, then turned it into a rental. (This was not disclosed to us by our agent, but the TV and telephone cables in every single room - even the dining room - should have tipped us off about something.) It was also on the market for
one and a half years, which was also kept from us not diclosed to us. We ended up using the same agent to sell it after the flip, but after three months on the market and no offers, we changed real estate agents, and the new agent told us about the rental situation and the 18 months on the market, plus he sold the house in eight days!
The house was so nasty that I didn't even want to go inside for a tour. My hubby convinced me to go in, even though I was totally disgusted.

This was the hallway on the main floor. I don't even want to think about what was ground into that green carpet. Yuck. Totally just cringed as I typed that! LOL

Nothing had been updated at all. About 45 years of grossness (is that even a word?) and super nastiness was all in one package! Yay for us....

This was the upstairs bathroom. I think they cleaned it for the walk through.
Part 2 coming later...

If God Collects Each of Our Tears, He Must Have Pools of Mine

I am such a cryer. I cry at movies. I cry at TV. I even cry at commercials, for crying out loud. I don't know when this happened. I remember teasing my grandpa because he was always crying at movies - he was such a softie! Now I am just like that but even worse. I miss him...

The commercial that gets me the most is the A&W one. I know. You're thinking, are you serious? A hamburger commercial? You crazy woman. Yep, the hamburger commercial gets me bawling like a baby. And that's why - a baby. Have you ever seen it? There are four people getting food - a husband and wife with their son and his wife. The husband orders a Papa burger for himself, a Mama burger for his wife, and two Teen burgers for the young marrieds. The son sneaks in another burger on tray. They all sit down, and the son starts handing out the burgers. The older man is given the Grandpa burger and starts to give it back to the son. Incredulous looks fly between the two couples and between father and son, and then everyone starts crying because the grandparents to be now know that the younger couple is expecting. Gets me every time. Geeeeezzzzz!!

Course, now I am watching Top Gun and am crying because Goose just died. Now I gotta go find my kleenex before my computer gets wet. Grrrreat.

Cake and Poop in the Puss, but not together

Buddy Valastro is awesome! Cake Boss has got to be one of my most fave shows ever! I don't really watch any scripted TV, just reality shows. I also watch fake reality scripted reality shows sometimes - like The Hills and The City.

Anywho, Buddy is going golfing and is rocking some awesome Catholic school girl knee socks!! And he is not wearing them with regular spiked golf shoes, but with all black leather loafers. Maybe they are hiding some mini spikes on the bottom. Can't tell. Bonus: One of his buddies is wearing mid-calf argyle socks. I love this show!

Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood
is on soon - Donna was never my fave on the original 90210, but I love Tori on this show!! Of course, because I have been watching it, I have a Tori-ism pop into my head quite frequently now. She was changing her daughter's super nasty diaper and said Stella had "poop in the puss". So now I have that scene in my head at least twice a day when I am...you know, changing the bum. Niiiiiice. Thanks, Tori. I guess we can be BFF now!

Yittle Bebs and Cwistmas Twees

So yesterday my son tells me that I should stay home with "The Little Babes".

This is his nickname for his little sister - I have no idea where he got the idea, but I totally wish I had thought of it first! (Although, it comes out more like "the yittle bebs", which I think is completely adorable!)

Ok, back to the story:

HIM:
Mommy, you and the yittle bebs need to stay home today because Daddy and I have to go out this afternoon.

ME:
Where are you going?

HIM (looking at me in obvious disgust that I am so clueless):
We HAVE to go get the Cwistmas twee. (Duh.)

ME:
Why are you going to get a Christmas tree?

HIM:
So we can bring it home and get it decorated all pwetty. (Duh again. Apparently Mommy is completely clued out here.)

ME:
But we just had Christmas. Next Christmas is still a long time from now.

HIM:
Like how yong?

ME:
More than three hundred days away.

HIM:
Like how many? (Obviously he does not believe me.)

ME:
Like more than three hundred and thirty days.

HIM (looking completely dejected):
Oh. That's a yong time away.

Silence as he contemplates the 330+ days.

HIM:
Mommy, so when is it going to be spring?

wishing and hoping

for SPRING!! I am sooo ready for the smells of spring. Winter smells so dirty cold. I want to smell flowers and rain and even dirt. Sorry, soil, as my mother tells me every single time I talk about it.

I am waiting for my timer to beep - chocolate cake coming right up! Actually, I am going to test-drive a super fab recipe I found at bakerella - her cake pops are amazing!! Are these not the most adorable things you've wanted to eat?! Hopefully mine will look as wonderful as hers! Not that the kindergarten kids who get them will mind if they are slightly crooked, unless of course my son gets one of those ones. Takes after his mother, that one. Yeah, you sow a little and you reap a little.

Gotta go. Bwoo's Cwoo's is on.
